Among the most frequent questions our endodontist at Jamaica Dental PC is asked by our patients are: Why does my tooth hurt, and can you make it stop? Fortunately, we are experts in diagnosing the cause of your pain, providing safe, efficient, long-lasting relief, and saving that precious natural tooth for years to come. Our training extends well beyond dental school, with years of additional instruction focusing on relieving our patients’ discomfort and restoring that tooth to good health and function.
Tooth pain can emanate from many causes and come in many forms, such as a reaction to hot and cold foods or drinks, a sharp pain when biting into food, a dull ache or pressure on the teeth, or sensitivity to the touch. Today’s endodontists possess state-of-the-art diagnostic technology to quickly identify the root cause. Among the most common sources of discomfort we treat are a crack in the tooth from general wear and tear or an injury; an abscess resulting from an infection; a sports injury or accident; or a tooth that’s been knocked out entirely.
The most successful procedure for safely and comfortably treating pain and preserving the natural tooth is by removing the inflamed or infected soft tissue inside the tooth known as pulp. A fully mature tooth no longer needs this pulp, and can do just fine without it. This procedure, called a root canal, is now accomplished in far less time and with far less discomfort than in years past. In fact, it’s no more of a bother than getting a filling.
Our endodontist at Jamaica Dental PC urges patients to keep in mind that saving their natural tooth is always the best option. Sure, there are artificial replacements available, but they can never reproduce the look, feel and function of the original equipment! Remember that time is of the essence when it comes to saving an injured tooth, so please contact us today to schedule an appointment.
